Hey all!
Your feedback is incredibly important to us. All the officers, we give our time and love to this community because we want Paranoid to be the best it can be for everyone. We want you guys to be happy and we don’t always get it right, but we always, always mean well. Why is this post starting like this? Because I think it’s important that you know we care. Now, we had some feedback recently asking if we could have more regular events where we ‘gather together’ like the anniversary party. Unfortunately, I don’t think we can do as many as the feedback would like – we can only put on as many events as the officers have the spoons to manage – but we also don’t have to wait until Winter Veil for another party!
So yes – Spooky Season is coming! Paranoid is having a Halloween bash.
What can you look forward to?
Step One – Community activities!
With blueprints, it’s now much easier to do something fun with your house, and then with the click of a button, return the house to how it was. So we are challenging YOU to create the activities for the party (hence why we’re announcing the party nearly two months in advance). The idea being during the party we’ll go round the houses of the folks who have built stuff, being social laughing in /g and in /ra, and generally having a good time.
Create a party game – potential examples could be (the limit is of course your imagination): haunted house tour, spooky maze, ghostly object hunt etc. These are only examples, there could be so many other things you could do. So don’t think this list is a limit.
Are there rules?
Not really. The officers did discuss saying things e.g. no spiders, because that’s a really common phobia. However, then we thought about it and realised that could get out of hand as there are many phobias (I think everybody knows by now, I have an issue with snakes) so what we’re saying instead is:
We don’t want to put a dampener on anyone’s enthusiasm, or put a spike in people’s inspiration. However, Paranoid at its core is about consideration of each other and creepy season often walks hand in hand with phobias. We don’t want to make a list and e.g. say no spiders, but we think it’s fair to say it would be more inclusive not to make something like spiders a central focus.
What we will ask/do is that each house has a list of obvious “trigger warnings” to give people notice of what they’ll encounter. You can help us with this list by telling us what your build contains, but the officers will do a tour before the party as well. With a trigger list, people can then choose to skip your house if needed, and still hang out in /g and /ra and enjoy the social atmosphere of the party.
What do I get for this?
I figured there should be something so I made a list on the Housing DB of crafted ‘spooky’ decor. Now, obviously spooky can be in the eye of the beholder, so if there is a piece of decor you think should be on that list, then you can request it instead. Everyone who signs up to make a ‘spooky build’ to contribute in some way to the party activities gets ONE spooky decor of their choice. I’ll do this at sign-up so you can include it in your build, rather than making it a reward and doing it afterwards. If you don’t finish the build/change your mind about being able to do it, then don’t worry I won’t be asking for it back. We don’t judge if people can’t do stuff, remember, it’s part of our ethos 🙂 So no stress over it!
How do I sign up?
Tell Tai basically (I’m taking point on running this event). You can email me, DM me on discord (I am not linking that on the blog, but it’s on my members profile if you are logged in), or you can /w me in game. I’ll need to know which house is yours, what item of spooky decor you’d like, and I’ll make up a list. Should you change your mind and need to drop out, again just shoot me a message, and I’ll take you off the list.
Step Two – Transmog Contest
Opening at the start of next month Paranoids next contest will be relating to spooky themed outfits. More details will be forthcoming nearer the time, but I can confirm there will be a mount prize (from the donated rewards tab), and we’ll likely announce the winner at the party.
Step Three – Spooky Season
Xer is currently considering running some ‘spooky themed’ casual instances. Nothing to announce specifically, but beating up an old raid wearing spooky costumes was mentioned. These plans are only tentative at the moment and subject to change.
Step Four – The party itself
As previously said the event will take place likely across both neighbourhoods – The Anxious Isle and Paranoid Bay. As we go between people’s houses, playing the games they have made for us. Spooky transmog is encouraged but not required.
When is it?
8-10pm server time, Sunday, November 1st – yes the day after Halloween, but when the officers discussed it, we thought maybe parents with kids etc. might be busy on All Hallow’s Eve.
As always any comments/questions etc. don’t hesitate. We put on these events for you, so we want them to be what you’d like.
